September 26th, 2017

So in my last email, I said that I made it to the mission home and we met the President and his wife. They are really nice. That evening I met my companions, Elder Vasquez from Missouri and Elder Chen from Taiwan. They are really cool companions and I'm glad that I'm in a trio. They are also zone leaders. I'm in the El Cajon area and I'll be here for the next 12 weeks. I'm serving in Aunt Kim's old stake.
We met a new investigator that evening and he's from Armenia and he knows 6 languages fluently including Mandarin. Wednesday, we got up at 5am!! And we got ready and exercised. We went to the Mormon Battalion and toured it, it was pretty cool and I've already been there too. I saw Sister Tessa Muir (from the Muller Park 9th ward) as she was our tour guide. We went to visit a young boy (Javier) who's about the age of 14 and his sister (Anna) who's 21. She's raising him while their parents are living back in Mexico. Later that evening, we had dinner at the Shoemakers' house - they are a sweet couple who's retired here. Every Wednesday evening on Main Street, there's a car show and if you know me, you'll know that I LOVE CARS. I was in heaven!!!

Thursday, we again woke up at 5am!! I'm NOT used to waking up this early. We had district meeting that morning. We had appointments all lined up but it all fell through except for one - Anna and Javier. It was an amazing discussion and they said yes to being baptized!!! I know that I was sent here for a reason because I was able to share my story of how Tom and Kathleen got me from the orphanage about 18 years ago and how Tom was faithful and worthy to serve his mission in Taiwan. Also because of his mission, that took his career back to Asia. I'm grateful to be in the gospel and have such an amazing family to be in.

I also met Elder Farmer who's Aunt Lisa's good friend's son. Friday, we played basketball and we had another district meeting and for lunch we ate California burritos!! By the way, SHOUT-OUT to Dad and Davis - it's their birthday!!! So happy birthday! I hope that things are going great and that you had a great day!
And now back to my day. We met with sister Sloss who is a sweet lady and we helped her with family history and the importance of going to the temple. Then we did street contracting. Saturday, we had a great day. We did lots of street contacting and met with less-actives. Sunday, this was my first Sunday in the mission field and as I had said earlier, I'm in the El Cajon area. The ward I attend is called the Fuerte Ward in the El Cajon stake and it was a very busy day. I met with a lot of the members and we had a potluck lunch thing after church, so the food was amazing. What are the odds that we saw the same homeless man who we saw earlier at the church building that evening, crazy huh? We did a lot of street contacting that evening since most of our appointments fell through.

Monday, a lot of our appointments fell through so that's kinda disappointing but that's ok. We did a lot of street contacting and met with less active members. General Conference is coming up this weekend so that will be fun, but too bad that we have to watch it in the church building instead of being in our flats. The worst part about going to members' house is that they have cats, so I'm pretty much dying there. To sum it up, I'm pretty busy being companions with zone leaders.

Ps, if you see me on facebook, it's because this is a social media/technology mission so feel free to tell me how things are going. FYI, the San Diego mission is one of the few missions in the world that uses a lot of things (like technology and social media) to help us teach, learn, and grow, so pretty cool.
